2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Brake Light Switch on 2008 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Start by disabling the SRS by removing and isolating the negative battery cable and then allow two minutes for the system capacitor to empty so nothing triggers the air bags after installing the brake light switch. If this switch's self-adjusting plunger is removed from its bracket, it will need to be changed. Press and then hold the brake pedal from the beginning. The tabs on the brake lamp switch locking collar should be aligned with the keyed hole in the switch bracket on the lower steering column. Insert the tabs through the hole so that the housing of the switch is securely in place against the bracket. Turn the switch housing about 30 degrees to the left to make the tabs fit with the bracket. It is very important to finish adjusting the switch plunger before you use the brake or release it. Taking the brake pedal off the floor, move the plunger adjustment release lever to a locked position where it is aligned with the brake lamp switch connector receptacle. Performing this action determines the plunger length and once it is complete, that length cannot be changed; failure to do it properly will require a new brake lamp switch. At last, attach the wire harness connector back to the brake lamp switch and hook up the battery negative cable.
