How to Safely Service and Remove a Brake Light Switch on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?

Before servicing the brake light switch, first turn off SRS by disconnecting and isolating the negative battery cable and waiting two minutes to allow the system capacitor to discharge. Find the switch inside the mounting bracket by the lower steering column support bracket and then disconnect the wire harness connector from it. Twist the brake lamp switch housing clockwise about 30 degrees until the locking collar fits into the keyed hole in the bracket, then pull the switch directly backwards to free it from the bracket. The brake lamp switch self-adjusting switch plunger is meant to be used only once, so it must be replaced with a new one if removed.
