2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Detach a Radiator from a 3.7L/4.7L/5.7L Engine on 2008 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: In the removal of the radiator of a 3.7L or 4.7L or 5.7L engine, the initial thing that is done, is to disconnect the negative cables of the battery. Make sure that the system is neither hot nor under pressure to have severe burns caused by coolant. Empty the coolant. Then take out the hose clamps and hoses on radiator, and then the coolant reserve/ overflow tank hose on radiator filler neck. The coolant reserve/overflow tank in the fan shroud is left in alternative slots in the shroud by simple removal done by pulling up straight off the fan shroud. Unclip the power steering hoses at the fan shroud then unplug the electric connectors at the windshield washer reservoir tank and within this, the tank is removed. Unscrew the fan shroud mounting bolts and use one hand to grab the shroud and with the other, pull the shroud to move it up and out of the radiator tank clips and move back and above the fan blades and towards the engine. Remove cooler lines connected to transmission cooler and plug the transmission cooler lines and cooler to avoid leakage. In the same light, remove the power steering lines out of power steering cooler and seal them too. Lastly, unscrew the two radiator upper mounting nut and bolts and withdraw the radiator straight up and out of the engine compartment without damaging the cooling fins and cooling tube work on the radiator and the oil coolers.
