The Dodge Ram 1500 Radiator as a functional part crucial in regulating the temperatures of the engine when on long trips or on cross-country travels. The Radiator plays the role of Intake passage by removing heat from the engine coolant and transferring heat to air by a mechanism of Heat exchanger thus allowing the efficient operation of the engine. Common materials for Dodge Ram 1500 Radiators are aluminum core with plastic or aluminum tanks and rare copper/brass Radiators. Performance Radiators are always better than factory Radiators because they have a better design and a better cooling of the coolant which makes it better for the engine. Radiators that are worn out have signs such as leakage, excessive heat, and inadequate power for the engine and hence replacements should be done to avoid poor functionality. When it comes to Radiator grids for Dodge Ram 1500 it is preferable to use Epoxy-free Radiators since they will be able to face harsh heat pressures while functioning at their premier. Aluminum Coolers are used for better performance, the reduction in the weight of the Dodge Ram 1500.

Dodge Ram 1500 Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Install a Radiator in the Engine Compartment on Dodge Ram 1500?
    A:
Put the radiator in place within the engine compartment without damaging the radiator's fins or the oil coolers. Instead of bolts, attach rubber insulators to the lower part of the radiator support, then attach the two upper bolts and tighten to 8 N-m (71 in. lbs.). Put the electric cooling fan in place and then install the fan shroud, securing both using the lower retaining clips on the radiator/electric cooling fan. Connect the fan shroud to the lower center retaining clip on the radiator and fit the mounting bolts; tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 in. lbs.). Lock all retaining clips into the fan housing and plug the fan's electrical connector. Mount the two A/C compressor/transmission combination cooler mounting brackets on the left of the radiator and link the transmission cooler lines. Reinstall the bolts on the A/C Condenser to the radiator's right and tighten them to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) and fasten the transmission cooler line bolt to the radiator bracket. Put in the coolant overflow/recovery bottle and the windshield washer reserve tank after that and the installation of the front Grille can follow. If the viscous fan is there, place it, connect the hose going to the upper radiator and properly install the clamp. Secure the upper radiator seal plastic rivets and push pins once you have them installed, then raise and lock the vehicle. Put the lower center electric fan on the radiator retaining clip, then clamp the lower radiator hose below it and seal the other end. Put the negative lead back to the battery, fill the cooling system with coolant and search for leaks. Make sure the engine is at its regular working temperature and then check the fluid level in the cooling system.
  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Radiator on 3.7L/4.7L/5.7L Engines on Dodge Ram 1500?
    A:
Before taking out the radiator on 3.7L/4.7L/5.7L vehicles, unplug the negative Battery Cable. Until the system is cool, never loosen the plugs in the block or open the radiator draincock, as it may lead to serious burns from hot coolant. After draining the cooling system, take out the hose clamps and hoses from the radiator. Take the coolant reserve/overflow tank hose off the top of the radiator and remove the coolant reserve/overflow tank by lifting it directly out of the fan shroud. Remove the Power Steering Hoses from the fan shroud, take off the connectors at the windshield washer tank and get rid of the tank. Remove the bolts holding the fan shroud and pull it away from the radiator tank, making sure it is seated backward above the fan blades next to the engine. Release the transmission cooler lines from the transmitter cooling system and link the lines and cooler to prevent any leakage. Just as before, detach the power steering lines from the Power Steering Cooler and then put plugs into the ends and connect the cooler as well. Remove the two top radiator mounting screws and gently pull the radiator straight out up and out, making sure you do not touch or damage the cooling tubes or fins on the radiator and oil coolers during removal.
