2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Radiator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Radiator in the Engine Cooling System on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: First, remove and isolate the negative battery cable; then, lift and secure the vehicle in order to change the engine cooling radiator. After draining the cooling system, do not remove the cylinder block drain plugs or open the radiator draincock before the system loses heat. Start by taking off the radiator clamp and hose that connect at the bottom, then get the seal and both retaining clips for the lower center electric fan. Set the car on lower stands and take out theupper radiator clamp and hose, upper radiator seal push pins, upper radiator seal plastic rivets and the upper radiator seal. If the machine has a viscous fan assembly, take it off from the water pump hub shaft. After that, pull out the grille, unbolt the line from the transmission cooler to the radiator bracket, remove the washer reserve tank and extract the coolant overflow/recovery bottle. Take out the front bolts from the A/C compressor/transmission combined cooler, then remove the upper center electric fan to radiator retaining clip. Take off the transmission cooler lines and plug them to keep fluid from leaking. Slide the A/C compressor/transmission combination cooler brackets on the left radiator side out from under the radiator, making sure the A/C lines stay connected. After that, secure the cooler to the upper radiator support. Pull out the mounting bolts on the fan shroud and tilt the shroud up so it can be moved backward over the fan and into place above the engine. Lift up the electric cooling fan to radiator upper and lower retaining clips, then detach the viscous fan and the fan shroud along with the electric cooling fan. Lift up and out of the engine compartment the radiator, being careful not to damage the small fins or tubes of the radiator or oil coolers.
