You should clean the surfaces where the gasket will contact before fitting the water pump on a 3.7L/4.7L engine. After that, put a new gasket in place, fit the water pump and secure it with the bolts to a torque of 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.). The pump should turn without the impeller pressing against the timing chain case/cover. After that, attach one end of the radiator lower hose to the water pump and add the accessory drive belt tensioner. Then, fit the drive belt during the other steps. Next, put in the radiator fan, fill the cooling system and link the negative battery cable. Then, turn the engine on and check all the areas to make sure no leakage occurs.
