2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Water Pump on 3.7L/4.7L Engines on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Start by removing the negative battery cable and draining your car's cooling system before removing and replacing the water pump on 3.7L/4.7L engines. Remove the fan/viscous fan drive assembly so that it comes out of the water pump but isn't disconnected from the vehicle. Before replacing the water pump, do not unbolt the fan blade assembly from the thermal viscous fan drive. After that, take out the radiator fan and accessory drive belt. Then, get rid of the clamp that holds the bottom radiator hose and pull the hose from the water pump. Unbolt the water pump, but make sure not to push or pry on the water pump where it connects with the timing chain case/cover or you could harm these sensitive surfaces and create leaks. Next, take out the water pump and gasket and get rid of the gasket.
