To give service to the lifter and lash adjuster, disconnect the negative battery cable, take off the air cleaner housing and intake manifold, then the cylinder head cover and the rocker arm assembly. Take off the cylinder head, tappet retainer and tappet, making sure that they are identified to be replaced back. Check camshaft lobes wear.
