2008 Dodge Sprinter 3500 Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Timing Cover and Its Components on 2008 Dodge Sprinter 3500?
A: Make sure the timing cover is installed on dry and clean mating surfaces. Start by fitting the front crankshaft seal into the timing cover and then install the cover with all bolts to 9 Nm (7 ft. lbs.). Once the vehicle is up, add the bolts to the front oil pan and tighten then to a torque of 10 Nm (88 in. lbs.). Slide the vehicle lower and position the vibration damper and pulley, then fasten the bolt to 210 Nm (154 ft. lbs.) and turn another additional 180 degrees. Following that, install the accessory drive belt tensioner, secure it with the bolt to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.) and tighten the bolts for the idler pulleys to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Attach the accessory drive belt, EGR air control valve assembly, glow plug module, charge air outlet tube and cooling fan module after first tightening the upper bolts to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.). Lift and hold up the vehicle again to take out tool 9102 crankshaft lock, attach the starter blank and tighten the lower cooling fan module bolts to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.). Run the power steering line behind the retainer and to the cooling fan module, attach the wiring harness connector from the cooler fan onto its harness wire and place the cooler fan and suspension pipes as well as pump and cooler fan hoses. Add the front skid plate, lower the vehicle and link up the hoses at the power steering reservoir just before filling it. Set up the front engine cover bracket and engine cover and after that, attach the negative battery cable. Open the system by lifting the vehicle, spinning the wheel back and forth 20 times, running the engine and then use the scan tool to bleed the air. After parking, switch off the engine and look for leaks.
