How to Service and Repair a Camshaft on the Left Side on 2008 Dodge Sprinter 3500?

You should start by taking out the negative battery cable and opening the engine cover when servicing the left camshaft. Once the engine is at TDC using the vibration damper bolt, take out the main engine wiring harness retainers from the rear of the cylinder head cover. Then, disconnect the EGR valve and the tube that brings air into your engine. After that, use 9539 pliers to disconnect the fuel feed hose from the fuel rail and pump and remove the remaining fuel hoses from the left cylinder head. Remove the fuel pipe bundle from the chassis and pop off the oil filter mount, after which you can take the cylinder head cover away. Examine the alignment of the camshaft timing gears and make sure the alignment marks are in contact and the exhaust camshaft drive gear alignment pin is around 12 o'clock when you look at it from the front camshaft seal. Unscrew the lower camshaft drive gear bolt after rotating the engine by the vibration damper bolt past TDC and align the camshaft gears and inspect the fit after you rotate it back to TDC. Get rid of the timing chain tensioner, mark the timing chain with paint or a scribe and strap the timing chain to the drive gear. After that, detach the drive gear from the camshaft by removing its holder bolts and take out the two camshaft retainers and the two cylinder head camshafts on the left.
