2008 Jeep Compass Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Rear Shock Absorber on 2008 Jeep Compass?
A: Before removing the shock absorber, open the cargo floor cover and the silencer that is behind the rear seat. Remove any bolts securing the satellite receiver or amplifier to the ride floor below. This will allow access to the shock assembly upper mounting nuts through the nearly invisible opening in the quarter panel. After that, take out the spare tire and lift the shock assembly upper mounting nut access door up, using both this opening and the one you formed by removing the rear floor pan silencer to reach the upper mounting nuts. Remove both nuts fixing the shock assembly to the body bracket and raise the vehicle to support it. After you finish burning, remove the nuts from the wheel mounts and take off the rear tire and wheel assembly. Replace the lower shock mounting nut and bolt and raise the assembly out of the body bracket by the rear suspension.
