2008 Jeep Compass Sway Bar Kit Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Service a Front Sway Bar Kit on 2008 Jeep Compass?
A: To take out the front sway bar kit, raise and support the vehicle before anything else. Should your car have one, unbolt and remove the engine belly pan. After, clear the rear engine mount then also take out the front engine mount through-bolt. Release the clips holding the power steering hose in place to the crossmember. At both end points of the sway bar kit, make sure the link's lower stud is locked in place and then unscrew the nut joining the link to the sway bar kit. Loose the sway bar bushing retainers at their points on the crossmember and remove them after this. Remove the two cushions from the sway bar kit by going through the slit in the cushions. Before taking out the front suspension crossmember, put marks on the body of the car near its mounting bolts so you can place it correctly later. Place a transmission jack under the crossmember and unfasten the four front crossmember bolts to the body, along with the two holding the steering gear to the crossmember. Tie a bungee cord or something similar to the steering gear so it doesn't drop when you lower the crossmember. Slowly allow the crossmember to drop until the sway bar kit can be taken out between the crossmember and the vehicle body, but don't drop it any further. Also, lift up and remove the sway bar kit at the rear of the crossmember.
