2009 Jeep Compass Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Rear Coil-Over Shock Absorber on 2009 Jeep Compass?
A: First, feed the lower part of the shock through the lower control arm above the body and then lift that end into the bracket located inside the body cover. Following this, put in the mounting bolt (1) and nut (3) to link the shock assembly (2) to the lower control arm (4), but don't tighten anything yet. Following that, add the tire and wheel assembly (1) and fasten its nuts (3) to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) and drive down the vehicle. Attach the two nuts (1) to the shock assembly (2) using the holes (1, 2) on the interior rear quarter trim panel, tighten them to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) so the assembly remains secure on the body bracket (3). Afterward, pull the shock assembly upper mounting nut access door (2) down to cover up the opening. Where possible, fit the satellite receiver (1) or amplifier (2) to the rear floor pan, after which install the rear floor pan silencer (1) and cargo floor cover. Adjust the vehicle so it's on an alignment rack or a drive lift, then raise up as required to get to the shock mounting bolt (1) and nut (3) and firmly tighten the shock assembly lower mounting bolt nut (3) to 99 Nm (73 ft. lbs.).
