2008 Jeep Compass Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Timing Cover on 2008 Jeep Compass?
A: Gently pull up on the engine cover to remove it before you take off the timing cover. Secondly, open the fuel pressure, unplug the negative battery link and get rid of the coolant bottle. Remove the power steering reservoir and disconnect the fuel line, make up air hose and PCV hose as well. First, pull off the ignition coil connectors from the electrical wiring and take away the cylinder head cover. Lift the car up and take out the right lower splash shield. Set the engine at top dead center and then leave the accessory drive belt. Remove the lower bolts holding the compressor, lower bracket and pulley, plus the crankshaft damper. Remove both the front crankshaft oil seal and the water pump pulley and then get rid of the lower bolt in the engine mount bracket. Unbolt the small bolts holding the timing chain cover and take the vehicle down on its wheels. Get rid of the power steering line support and power steering pump. First, lift the engine using the jack and a block of wood put below the oil pan and unbolt the bracket from the right side of the engine mount. Take off the upper idler pulley, remove the right engine mount bracket and get rid of the accessory drive belt tensioner. Also, take out the timing chain cover by removing the bolts and pushing it through the bottom area of the car.
