How to Replace a Liftgate Hinge Without Removing the Liftgate on 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

You don't have to take off the liftgate to replace the hinges; it's enough to replace them step by step. Use a prop or block to lift and hold the liftgate before you start any maintenance. After that, take out the support struts that hold the liftgate. After that, remove the trim plate from the top of the liftgate opening header. Use a mark on the inner panel to help install the liftgate again. Take out the screws that hold the hinge to the liftgate and afterward, mark the position on the liftgate header up top where the hinge will go again. Unbolt and unscrew the studs on the header than appears when you pull the headliner down from its rear edge. Remove the entire hinge from inside the car.
