2008 Jeep Wrangler Alternator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain an Alternator on 2008 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before you work on the alternator, safety shut off all the power and take away the generator and accessory drive belt. Special Tool #8823 (VM.1048) goes into the decoupler for the INA where you should check if the generator shaft has a hexagonal or splined shape. If the fastener is hex shaped, use tool #8823 and a 10mm socket; if it's splined, you can use either a 5/16" 6-point hex driver or a 10mm 12-point triple square driver. Change the direction of the tool and loosen the decoupler from the generator's threads, but remove it by hand after that. For the Litens decoupler, set Special Tool #8433 into the decoupler and line it up with the hex section of the generator shaft. Again, twist the tool to the right to remove the decoupler from the generator's right-hand threading and then take out the decoupler by hand.
