  A: Before servicing or repairing your alternator, break the negative battery cable link to avoid risks to yourself or to the electrical system. With the drive belt gone, you should go next to remove the generator mounting bolts (1) and (3), as well as nut (2). Remove the plastic cover (1) from the B+ terminal and then remove the B+ cable output terminal mounting nut before you remove the terminal from the generator.
