2009 Chrysler Town & Country Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Timing Cover and Its Components on 2009 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Be sure the surfaces connecting the chain case cover and cylinder block are clean and don't have any burrs and take out the crankshaft oil seal to let the oil pump fit the chain case cover properly. Apply a new gasket to the timing cover, with the bottom side flush to 0.5 mm past the timing cover's edge. First, turn the crankshaft so its oil pump drive flats face upward and next, line up the oil pump inner rotor flats with the crankshaft drive flats for the proper connection and no major damage. Fasten all the timing cover and chain cover bolts, M8 bolts to 27 Nm and M10 bolts to 54 Nm. Place the crankshaft front seal, water pump and related pulley in proper position. Suction cup the idler pulley in place and fasten it, using 28 Nm to secure the bolt. After that, fit the tensioner and tighten the bolt to the same value. Attach the pump to the cylinder block, connect the three bolts through the pulley and tighten them to 23 Nm. Screw the generator onto the engine block, apply the two provided bolts and tighten them to 54 Nm. Once the clearance fits, fasten the bracket to the generator and stud and fasten the bolt and nut to 28 Nm. Tighten the nut onto the front cover support bracket with 22 Nm and then tighten the bolts with 25 Nm. Mount the engine to the mount by turning the bolt until it reaches 10 Nm. Install the side engine mount, put the camshaft position sensor on the timing chain cover and join the heater return hose to either the housing of the timing chain cover or the tube going into the water pump inlet. Attach the lower radiator hose, mount the crankshaft vibration damper and fasten the A/C compressor afterward, following the order for each bolt or nut. Fit the accessory drive belt, the oil pump pick-up tube with a new O-ring and tighten its attaching bolt to 28 Nm. Place the oil pan, right front inner splash shield and right front tire and wheel assembly. Put the correct amount of engine oil into the crankcase and use the proper fluid to fill the cooling system. Then, connect the negative battery cable and individuals should use a torque wrench to tighten the nut to 5 Nm.
