2009 Dodge Caliber Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove and Replace an Air Bag on 2009 Dodge Caliber?
A: Before removing and changing the PAB, shut off the SRS by taking off and isolating the negative battery cable and then give the system two minutes to drain the air bag capacitor. air bag units may contain irritants, so always wear a shirt, gloves and goggles when handling one that has deployed. Should the PAB be ineffective or damaged without deployment, follow the procedures listed for non-deployed supplemental restraints. When the PAB has been placed, read the post-deployment service guidelines before you remove it. The first step is to remove the negative battery cable and let things rest for two minutes. After that, take off the top panel from the instrument board and the glove compartment from the same panel. Don't try to tug on the instrument panel wire harness take outs or force open the connector insulator to ensure you don't ruin anything. Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connectors by pulling the lock straight out and removing the insulators from between the upper glove box opening reinforcement and the instrument panel armature. Take out the two nuts that hold the PAB lower bracket studs to the instrument panel armature. To take out the PAB and PAB door from the top of the panel, first gently separate the edges of the doors from the panel with a trim stick and then remove the whole assembly.
