2009 Dodge Challenger Oil Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Change an Oil Filter and Safely Dispose of Used Oil on 2009 Dodge Challenger?
A: Change the engine oil every time and mileage listed in the Maintenance Schedule. Both new and used engine oil can irritate your skin, so make sure not to touch it for a long time. Since used engine oil often contains hazardous chemicals, it's important to clean your skin afterward with soap and water and never wash your skin with gasoline, diesel fuel, thinner or solvents as they can be harmful. Talk to your dealer or get in touch with a government agency to get the address of a collection center near you for your used engine oil. Run your engine until it gets to its usual temperature, rest the vehicle on level ground and stop it. Lift the hood and unscrew the cap on top of the engine oil unit. Hoist your vehicle and make sure a proper drain pan is underneath the crankcase drain. Unscrew the drain plug for the oil pan, let the oil drain into your pan and examine the threads for cracks or wear. In case they are damaged, replace the drain plug and gasket. Take out the oil filter. Add the drain plug in the crankcase and twist it to a torque of 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Install an oil filter that's made for your vehicle. Drop the car slowly down and pour in the recommended amount of the correct engine oil into the crankcase. Put the oil fill cap on, start the engine and see if there are any leaks. Check the oil level by switching off the car. A good disposable oil filter is installed on all engines; be sure to replace it with a Mopar(R) filter or one of similar quality. Follow precautions when emptying used engine oil from a car's engine.
