2009 Dodge Challenger Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove the Rear Engine Timing Cover on 2009 Dodge Challenger?
A: Before changing the rear engine timing cover, first cut off the negative cable from the battery and drain the cooling system. After that, take out the timing belt and both of the right and left camshaft sprockets. Loosen the three fastening bolts on the pulley and move the steering pump into position. Take the time to lift and hold the vehicle, then remove the front belly pan. Get rid of the most visible mounting bolt on the generator before removing the bolt fastening the generator bracket. Remove the lower bolts, offering more space to lift the generator bolts up. Carefully loosen the bolt that holds the back of the A/C compressor and transmission cooler line to the engine, so you don't damage the cooler lines. Reattach the A/C compressor and take out the mounting bolts of the water pump before you remove it. Last, extract the bolts and nuts from the rear timing belt cover and remove the cover. Replace the O-rings at the connections between the water pump passages and the cylinder block, since they aren't meant to be used again.
