  A: The SRS must be disabled before touching the headlamp dimmer switch by isolating and disconnecting the negative battery cable for approximately two minutes to ensure the capacitor is discharged. In addition, an experienced technician should take the high voltage service disconnect out of the high voltage battery pack in HEV cars. To start, take out the screw holding the tilt steering column knob in place and remove it from the tilt actuator on the left of the column. After that, below the steering column, remove the two screws on the outside that secure the upper column shroud to the lower one. Push on both sides of the top cover and the snap features will open, so you can pull the top cover off the lower shroud and steering column. Unscrew the fastener at the middle of the shroud holding it to the steering column and take it off. Disconnect the wire harness connector from behind the multi-function switch housing. Turn the steering wheel to reach and remove the two screws that attach the switch to the multi-function button mounting bracket. Pull the switch control stalk toward the left part of the car to free the switch from its mounting housing.
