2009 Dodge Grand Caravan A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How Can Proper Maintenance of the A/C Condenser Prevent System Malfunction and Compressor Damage on 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: When you service the A/C refrigerant system, adjust the oil to prevent both malfunctions in the A/C and harm to the compressor. Make sure to put in all factory-installed air seals or shrouds to ensure proper function of both the air conditioner and engine cooling, without overheating. When you change several A/C parts, take the total from the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart; if simply the condenser is replaced, pour in 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil. It is important to change the O-ring seals and metal gaskets any time you separate refrigerant lines to keep liquids from leaking. Make sure both the radiator and condenser air seals are properly set up. Bring the radiator backward slowly so that you can fit the A/C condenser into place, then fasten the lower brackets to the radiator. Fit the brackets with retaining tabs, lower the upper radiator crossmember into place and link the transmission cooler lines to the transmission fluid cooler. Anchor the condenser tapping block to the radiator with a screw and next, remove any tape or plugs from both the refrigerant line fittings and condenser ports. Let down the refrigerant oil into the new rubber O-ring seals, put the seals and gaskets on the fittings of the refrigerant lines and then attach the A/C discharge line and liquid line to the condenser tapping block, tightening the nuts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Place the grille in the vehicle, rejoin the negative battery cable and let out the refrigerant from the system. If changing just the condenser, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil, while for all other component replacements, use our Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to find the oil quantity needed and only use the refrigerant oil recommended for the A/C compressor. This final step is to charge the referred system with refrigerant.
