2009 Dodge Nitro Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove the Right Camshaft on 2009 Dodge Nitro?
A: Before taking out the right camshaft, remove the battery's negative cable and take off the cylinder head cover. Start by fixing engine cylinder #1 to TDC with the camshaft sprocket V6 marks at the top. Put a mark on one link on the timing chain near each side of the V6 stamp on the camshaft sprocket for proper installation. Never try to move or interact with the camshaft target wheel, since doing so may severely injure the components and prevent the engine from operating. With the Camshaft Holder 8428A, place the camshaft and then unscrew the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt, but do not entirely remove it as you leave it tight against the sprocket. Solidify the timing chain tensioners ahead of camshaft sproket removal to stop them from becoming loose and having to take the timing cover off for adjustment. Place the Wedge Locking Tool 8379 between the linkage in the timing chain and tap it to move the timing chain against the arm labeled tensioner and guide. Take out the camshaft position sensor, hold the camshaft using the Camshaft Holder 8428A and bolt-fastener isolator 8428A and then remove the bolt and camshaft sprocket together. Start by loosening the bolts one after another, half a turn each time, so that all the load is gone from the bearing caps and you do not knock the caps by accident. The rocker arms may slip downward if you take out the camshaft which is why you should mark them beforehand. Now, take off the camshaft bearing caps and also the camshaft itself.
