2009 Dodge Nitro Fan Clutch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Fan Clutch on Gas Engines on 2009 Dodge Nitro?
A: Before changing the clutch on gas engines, you should partially drain their cooling system. After that, take out the upper radiator hose and the air filter housing assembly. Attach adapter pins 8346 into the holes on top of the fan/viscous fan drive assembly, then use Tool 6958 to remove the assembly from the water pump, still attached to the vehicle. Place the fan/fan drive assembly in the radiator shroud and after removing its screws from both sides, pull out the radiator shroud and assembly. After you remove the fan blade or viscous fan drive assembly, be sure not to store it horizontally so silicone fluid does not drain into the bearing assembly and dirties the lubricant. In the last step, remove the four bolts that attach the fan blades to the viscous fan drive.
