2009 Dodge Nitro Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Water Pump on a 3.7L Engine on 2009 Dodge Nitro?
A: Before you remove and replace the water pump on these engines, ensure the gasket mating surfaces are clean. After installing a new gasket, place the water pump, put the bolts in and tighten them to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Be sure that the water pump spins without touching or rubbing against the timing chain cover/case. Connect the lower radiator hose to the water pump, then lay the accessory drive belt over both pulleys. Assemble the upper fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive components, so that the fan shroud's upper and lower parts are tightly together to ensure air passes through the radiator. Insert the two fan shroud to radiator screws and check that the fan blades are at minimum 25 millimeters from the fan shroud. Remove air from the cooling system, recharge it with fluid, reattach the negative battery cable and look out for any leaks in the cooling system.
