2009 Dodge Nitro Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Radiator on 2009 Dodge Nitro?
A: Before removing the engine cooling radiator, always let the engine cool down and be certain the system is safe to work on. Pour any clean coolant into a clean container so you can reuse it. When you take out the radiator or A/C condenser, remember to note where the rubber seals are, since they need to be put back in place or your engine will start to overheat. Take out the negative cable from the battery and drain the coolant from the radiator. On a KA or KK vehicle, take out the combination coolant recovery/washer fluid reservoir assembly. After that, take away the front grille as well as the viscous cooling fan from the engine. Take out the two bolts that link the radiator to the frame, pull off the fan connector and release the power steering cooler line. Take out the upper, lower radiator hoses and the overflow hose connected to the radiator. There are two alignment dowel pins in the radiator at the bottom that fit into rubber grommets mounted into the radiator lower crossmember. Remember, the air conditioning keeps running under pressure, regardless of whether the engine is off. Both the radiator and the cooling fan can be removed together, so you don't need to take out the fan specifically beforehand. After that, carefully pick up and take out the radiator, to avoid scratching the radiator fins and possibly harming the air conditioning condenser.
