2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove an Evaporator from an A/C System on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Begin by taking off the HVAC housing and rest the structure on a workbench before removing the A/C evaporator. Unplug the HVAC wiring harness from the recirculation door actuator, power module or blower resistor and the blower motor. Detach the harness from the two clips on the HVAC and move it so it is out of your way. A deformed or broken foam seal should be changed right away. Open the housing on the front and take out the foam seal. After that, open the two bolts fixing the A/C expansion valve to the evaporator tube tapping block and remove the valve. After marking the wires, take out the screws that secure the HVAC housing to the motor and evaporator housing. Use care to lift the nine tabs out of their holes and separate the blower motor and evaporator housing from the HVAC housing. Should the foam around the A/C evaporator be bent or torn, you have to change it. The last step is to remove the evaporator from the blower and the housing. Should the evaporator contain parts that are correct and are being reinstalled, please unscrew the O-ring seals from the evaporator fittings and then either install plugs or tape over the evaporator ends.
