2009 Dodge Ram 1500 A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the A/C Clutch on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Circuit interruption is necessary, so begin by unhooking and isolating the negative battery cable. Remove the belt that drives the accessories. Release the engine wire harness connection at the top of the A/C compressor on the clutch field coil connector. Support the compressor and release everything holding it onto the engine. Carefully unplug the connector for the clutch clutch coil and follow its wire o the connector bracket. To lessen the risk of the outer clutch plate spinning, remove the bolt connecting the shaft to compressor with the help of a band-type oil filter wrench or strap wrench. Don't open the distance between the clutch plate and the pulley and bearing assembly, since that could harm the clutch plate. Do not drop any clutch shim(s) while taking off the clutch plate because you might be able to use them again when putting it back on. Tap gently around the edges of the clutch plate with a plastic mallet to push it away from the compressor shaft and then take out the clutch plate and shim(s). Grab your A/C Snap Ring Pliers 9764 or equivalent and unclip the snap ring connecting the pulley and bearing assembly near the front of the A/C compressor, then take out the assembly. Then, take off the snap ring located under the snap ring pliers which connects the compressor clutch coil to the front of the A/C compressor. After, remove the field coil.
