2009 Jeep Commander Alternator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair an Alternator on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: Before servicing or fixing the alternator, disconnect the negative cable from your battery to keep the electrical system safe. With a 3.7L or 4.7L engine, first isolate the battery by unhooking the negative cable, next take off the generator drive belt. Pull off the plastic insulator cap from the B+ outlet and take out the nut at the back of the generator to separate the terminal from the generator. Pull the generator out of the vehicle by removing one bolt on the back and two on the front, then push in the field wire connector tab at the back to disconnect. The 5.7L engine needs you to start by removing the negative battery terminal and taking the belt off the generator. Release the plastic insulator cap from the B+ terminal, turn the B+ nut at the back of the generator and remove it and then break the B+ terminal connection. Once done, pull out the field wire connector at the back of the generator, remove two mounting bolts and lift the generator out of the vehicle.
