Begin the alternator service by loosening the negative cable of the battery and then taking off the generator and accessory
Drive Belt. For the INA decoupler, insert Special Tool #8823 (VM.1048) into the decoupler and decide if the generator shaft's end is hex shaped or splined. If the hole is hex, use a 10MM deep socket in tool #8823; if the hole is splined, either use a 5/16" 6-point hex driver or a 10MM 12-point triple square driver in that tool. Because conventional threads face right on the generator shaft, turn the tool clockwise to release the decoupler and then unthread it by hand. For the Litens decoupler, next, cut the negative
Battery Cable and take out the generator and accessory drive belt. Insert Special Tool #8433 into the decoupler so that it is flush with the hex end of the generator shaft. Again, turn the tool in the clockwise direction to allow the decoupler to move and then pull it loose from the generator threads manually.
