2009 Jeep Commander Shift Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install a Shift Cable on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: The first step is to route the gearshift cable (3) under the dashboard to point toward the shifter through a small hole under the hood. After that, fit the grommet onto the dash panel and put the gearshift cable retainer (4) into the shifter assembly's notch. Slide the gearshift cable (3) onto the shift lever pin and, when required, loosen the cable adjustment nut (2). Lift the vehicle and place the transmission in PARK by trying to rotate the propeller shaft; if the shaft turns, put the transmission manual shift lever straight back and rotate the shaft until the PARK system is working. Put the gearshift cable (3) through the mounting bracket (4) and snap the end of the cable (3) over the transmission manual shift lever. Don't forget to switch off the engine and place the shifter in the PARK position. Bolting the adjustment nut (2) to 30 Nm (265 in.lbs.) will complete the shifter setup and you should make sure the shifter is functioning well. Should you require a shield, install it over the gearshift and park lock cables and bolt it onto the shifter assembly. As a final step, install the console in the floor of the car, the various lower units in the instrument panel and the pad for the dash panel insulation.
