2009 Jeep Commander Vapor Canister Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove the NVLD Pump from a Vapor Canister on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: A Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD) pump is connected to the Evaporative System Vapor Canister on the Vehicle in the left-rear quarter-panel behind the left-rear tire. Before taking off the assembly, vehicle lifting and removing the wheel are required. Unclip the plastic splash shield at the rear of the left-rear tire to open the EVAP canister or the NVLD pump. Take out the vapor and vacuum tubes by releasing the connectors at the pump. After that, release the three bolts holding the canister to the car body and unbolt the two clamping nuts front and rear on the canister to separate it from the bracket. Both alignment pins found at the bottom end of the canister are held inside the rubber grommets; they must be removed to free the canister from the support bracket. Squeeze the NVLD pump's tab outward, rotate the pump clockwise about 70 degrees and then lift the pump out of the EVAP canister.
