2009 Jeep Commander Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Catalytic Converter on a 3.7L Engine on 2009 Jeep Commander?
A: On the 3.7L engine, set the brake assembly, called the steady rest bracket, onto the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly. Following that, fix the front exhaust pipe or catalytic converter onto the car. Mount the bolts and nuts on the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly to the exhaust manifold flange, but don't tighten them yet. The nuts on the front exhaust/catalytic converter need to be installed at the muffler flange also without tightening yet. Make sure there is a gap of at least 25.4 mm (1.0 in.) around the entire underbody and the frame. After that, put 26 Nm (19 in. lbs.) of torque on the exhaust manifold to front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly bolts and 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) on the muffler flange nuts to those bolts. Attach the bracket bolts firmly to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.), plug all oxygen sensor electrical connectors into their ports and finally fit the transmission crossmember. After the other tasks are finished, lower the vehicle, run it and look for exhaust leaks, fixing them as necessary.
