2009 Jeep Compass Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to install a parking brake cable on 2009 Jeep Compass?
A: Pull the parking brake cable through the floor pan and make certain the grommet is snug so the hole is sealed well. Put the clamp onto the stud on the fuel tank strap and add the nut. Use the cable routing clamp and screw it tightly to the body. Fit the parking brake cable through the hole in the trailing link and support plate; after that, install the hair pin to keep it connected to the brake support plate. Insert the components you had removed during disassembly back into the parking brake and mount the tire and wheel assembly. Before tightening the wheel nuts, set the torque to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Dealers will lower the car and secure the tire and wheel assemblies to prevent them from moving when the parking brake is let go. Fit the seal grommet in the floor pan and thread the parking brake cable along the carpet to the retaining bracket. A new cable equalizer is required, so you need to stretch the included bent nail tensioner to make sure the cables are at the correct tension. Multiple equalizer and mount it on the cable of the parking brake lever and then route the parking brake cables from the rear to the equalizer for alignment. Once the adjustment nut is tight, pull the parking brake lever to stretch the equalizer and then put the lever in its fully released position to check cable tension. Do this by revealing 31 millimeters of thread by tightening the nut. Step on the lever again and check that the rear wheels turn freely and afterward use the parking brake to compare the movement of the wheels. Lower the vehicle and move the lever back to its previous position to check that the wheels rotate. Then, engage the parking brake, lower the car again, install the center console on the floor, take off the tire blocks and lastly hook up the battery's negative cable.
