2009 Jeep Liberty TPMS Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a TPMS Sensor on 2009 Jeep Liberty?
A: Put a new seal 2 and metal washer 1 at the bottom of the sensor valve, 6, to seal properly before installing the TPM Sensor. Clean the place around where the sensor/valve stem mounting hole is in wheel 5, so the wheel is not scratched. Press on the metal valve stem at the back while you bring sensor 1 into the wheel, making certain the potted part of the sensor is toward the wheel. Jam in washer 3, then by hand, carefully put sensor nut 3 into position on housing 2. Using your fingers, lower housing 2 to match the inner shape of wheel 1 and tighten sensor nut 3 to 8 Nm (71 in. lbs.). It's important to avoid applying too much pressure when tightening the sensor nut, since even a little extra can separate the sensor from the valve stem. Move the sensor valve stem away from the head of the changer by 280° on rotating wheel changers or 210° clockwise from the tool end on rotating tool changers, so the sensor is not blocked by the lower bead breaker area. Fill your tires to the level indicated by the Tire Inflation Pressure Label and be sure to install the original style valve stem cap correctly. Place the tire and wheel onto the vehicle, remove support and bring the vehicle down. One way to make the WCM/SKREEM pick up the ID of the new tire pressure sensor is to use the Scan Tool which comes with TPM-RKE Analyzer 9936, to program the WCM or drive the car for at least 10 minutes at more than 15 mph (24 km/h), after it has not moved for at least 20 minutes. If you cannot teach a sensor, refer to the proper diagnostic instructions.
