2009 Jeep Liberty Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Air Bag Control Module on 2009 Jeep Liberty?
A: To work on the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC), first disconnect and unhook the car battery's negative cable, leave it disconnected for at least two minutes and disable the SRS system so the system's capacitor drains completely before continuing. Damaging the impact sensor can happen if you strike or drop the ORC, so it's very important to avoid doing so. With the Occupant Classification System fitted, first replace just the ORC and conduct the SRS feedback test, then only replace the Occupant Classification Module OCM after that to avoid having a serious on-going fault in the system. Carefully remove the ORC with its attached plastic mounting bracket whenever you change out the service replacement engines. Things should be safe if you first disconnect the negative cable from the car battery and let the capacitor dissipate its stored energy. Following, take out the center console located on the center of the floor panel transmission tunnel. Pull up on the connector release and lift the lever arm on both body and instrument panel wire harness connectors to remove them from the ORC receptacles. Remove the two nuts attaching the left part of the ORC bracket to the studs welded to the top of the transmission tunnel staging deck, then remove the screws securing the ORC bracket to the deck on the right side. After that, detach the ORC and remove the ORC mounting bracket.
