2009 Jeep Patriot Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Tie Rod End on 2009 Jeep Patriot?
A: To repair or service the outer tie rod end, the first thing to do is apply the jam nut (5) to the threads on the inner tie rod if it is missing. Place the outer tie rod (4) around the inner tie rod a total of about as many times as you did when first installing them. Following, put the jam nut (5) down the tie rod so that it is below the outer tie rod, holding it in place, but do not tighten it at this time. Using the outer tie rod ball stud (2), snap it in the hole on the knuckle arm (3) and start a new tie rod mounting nut onto the stud. When the tie rod end stud is held by a wrench, use a wrench or crowfoot wrench to tighten the nut until it reads 132 Nm (97 ft. lbs.). Once done, put the tire and wheel assembly (1) on and tighten the wheel mounting nuts (3) to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Flip the vehicle over and set the front wheel toe correctly. Lastly, secure the tie rod jam nut after toeing the wheel at 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
