  A: When servicing the muffler, let the exhaust system cool down due to its very high operating temperature close to the catalytic converter which can reach high temperatures quickly. Always remember to avoid torches in contact with fuel lines and the fuel tank to keep from suffering serious harm. Separate the oxygen sensor connector(s) so you don't accidentally harm the wiring or sensor when fixing exhaust parts. Tailpipes of original equipment are welded to the mufflers, yet with aftermarket mufflers and tailpipes, they are sometimes clamped or welded together. Raise the vehicle before loosening the clamp that links the exhaust, muffler and tailpipe sections. After that, unbolt the muffler and tailpipe assembly from the isolators, removing them from within the vehicle.
