2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install Piston and Connecting Rod Assemblies on 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before placing the piston and connecting rod assembly, set the piston rings so the compression ring gaps are not the same as the oil ring rail gap. Ensure that both ends of the oil ring expander are flush and the rail gaps are at the correct length before you use the ring compressor. Submerge the piston head and rings in engine oil and then place the ring compressor carefully but not to disturb the rings. If you reuse the piston/rod assembly, it has to be set up in the same way it was when you bought the engine, with the direction mark on the piston in front of the engine. Turn the crankshaft until the center of the connecting rod journal lines up with the cylinder bore and put some clean oil on it. Fit the upper half of the connecting rod bearing into the connecting rod and put mounting guides 8189 onto the connecting rod. Strike the piston into the cylinder while moving the connecting rod rod into its journal position and at the same time unscrew and remove the connecting rod guides. You should buy new connecting rod cap bolts instead of reusing the old ones; apply clean oil to the new bolts' threads. Drop the lower half of the connecting rod bearing into the cap and put the cap on. Finger tighten all the bolts and then follow with 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) of torque on each, then tighten once more 1/4 of a turn without applying torque with a wrench. Measure the clearance at the rod end surface with a feeler tool. Next, install the Balance Shaft Carrier Assembly, then fit the oil pan (3) and afterward put in the cylinder head. After everything else, start the engine and see if there are any leaks.
