  • Q: How to Install a Timing Cover on 2010 Dodge Caliber?
A: Make sure the final seal between the engine and timing cover is clean and has no grease or oil, then seal the parts using Mopar(R) engine sealant RTV (or an equivalent) at the cylinder head, oil pan, block and ladder frame and add a small 2 mm bead on both the oil pan and engine block. Stick the cover under the vehicle and raise it during installation; secure the cover with the upper bolts and tighten them to 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.) for M6 bolts and 26 Nm (230 in. lbs.) for M8 bolts. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner and tighten its bolt using 24 Nm (212 in. lbs.); then add and tighten the right engine mount bracket bolts at 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.). After that, fit the accessory drive belt upper idler pulley and tighten its bolt to 35 ft. lbs., then attach the engine mount adapter and fasten the bolts to 50 ft. lbs. and finally fit the engine mount through bolt and tighten to 65 ft. lbs. Get rid of the jack beneath the engine, lift and support it, bolt the oil pan to the timing chain cover using the lower retaining M6 bolts and tighten them to 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.). Secure the water pump pulley with three 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.) bolts and then put in the crankshaft damper. Attach the lower accessory drive belt idler pulley next and tighten the bolt to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) after that, then connect the lower A/C compressor mounting bracket using bolts tightened to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.), then fit the A/C compressor using bolts tightened to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Replace the lower splash shield, bring the vehicle down to the ground and bolt the cylinder head cover and ignition coils in place. Mount the pump in the proper location, pass the three bolts through the pulley holes and tighten to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.), before proceeding to the power steering hose hold down. Attach the drive belt for the accessories, the mount the power steering pump reservoir with a tightened screw of 12 Nm (106 in. lbs.), install the windshield washer reservoir and secure the coolant recovery reservoir bolts at 4 Nm (35 in. lbs.). Then, attach the clean air hose and air cleaner housing, hook up the negative battery cable, let the engine run until it is at temperature, test the oil system for leaks and the right fluid level and fix any condensation that appears in the spark plug wells.
