2010 Dodge Caliber Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Ensure Proper Installation and Alignment of a Camshaft on 2010 Dodge Caliber?
A: First, see which number is on the front camshaft bearing cap and pick the matching exhaust camshaft bearing. After that, install the chosen bearing. All camshaft journals should be oiled with clean engine oil and any removed camshaft phasers should be installed. Now, fit the timing chain around the exhaust cam sprocket so that the marks on each match. Place the exhaust camshaft on the bearing journals in the head and have its timing mark line up with the cylinder head cover surface. Adjust the rear of the intake cam, insert the sprocket into the chain and line up the timing marks on the intake cam sprocket with the painted chain link before you set it into the journals. Make sure that the timing marks on the camshafts are in the same position and that they point toward one another over the cylinder head cover. The front intake and exhaust camshaft bearing cap should be installed last, with the dowels placed and the correct torque order used to prevent harm to the engine. When the front camshaft bearing cap is broken, the cylinder head should be replaced. Place the intake and exhaust camshaft bearing caps and tighten the bolts to 9.5 Nm in the right sequence while checking that the exhaust bearing shells have the dowels seated correctly before torquing them. After that, place the front intake and exhaust bearing cap, tighten the bolts using 25 Nm and verify that all timing marks are in line. Pull the allen wrench out and then use the pull rope to raise and release Locking Wedge 9701 when it is out of the way. Add thread sealant to the timing tensioner plug and put it in the engine. Turn the crankshaft two complete revolutions clockwise, then check that the camshaft timing marks are aligned with the sealing surface of the cylinder head cover; if they are not, the timing chain is wrong. Apply the correct splash shield, clean off RTV from the gasket and check the cylinder head cover gaskets for damage, installing them again if they are in good shape. Once the head cover is installed and the negative battery cable is connected, put coolant in the system and oil in the engine. Run the vehicle until it warms up to the normal operating temperature, check both fluid systems, then install the engine cover.
