2010 Dodge Challenger Battery Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: What Are the Best Practices for Maintaining Battery Cables on 2010 Dodge Challenger?
A: Before handling the battery cables, make sure they are turned off and that no electrical accessories are on. For the negative cable in the engine compartment, lift up the spare tire cover so you can replace the battery, disconnect the cable from the battery and pull out the pin locking it to the right front strut tower. Lift the vehicle on a hoist and unhook the attachment of the cable to the transmission housing. Get rid of the pushpins, fasteners and routing clips that keep in the battery cable, free it and take it out of the engine compartment. Rotate the ignition switch to Off in the rear compartment and take out the spare tire cover. Take off the fastener from the battery negative cable and disconnect it from the vehicle, so that the cable is hanging free. Toggling the ignition to Off, removing the spare tire cover, taking off the negative cable from the battery and disconnecting the positive cable from the battery goes for the positive cable from the battery to the bulkhead. Open the Power Distribution Center cover first, then disconnect the positive battery cable from the PDC fastener at the rear. From the rear compartment, remove the routing clips that hold the battery's positive cable, lift the right front seat's retainer loop to remove that seat and pull upward on the right rear seat's retainer loop to remove the seat cushion. After removing the right trim from both the cowl and the quarter, place the carpet somewhere safe to reach the positive cable on the battery. Pull the cable end away from the routing clips in the backseat, set the bulkhead insulator to the side and unfasten the battery positive cable from the fastener under the bulkhead before leaving the vehicle. To remove the positive cable in the engine compartment, turn the key to Off, separate the spare tire cover, take off the battery negative cable and hoist up the car. Start by accessing the battery positive cable bulkhead outside terminal by removing the right front wheelhouse splash shield, follow by taking the battery cable off the fastener and starter routing clip at the back of the starter. Grip the starter fastener with protective gloves and take out the battery positive cable, recording the path of the cable as you move it.
