2010 Jeep Liberty Exhaust Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace Exhaust Valve and Intake Valves on 2010 Jeep Liberty?
A: First, loosen and uninstall the detached negative battery cable and then take off the cylinder head covers. So now, remove the rocker arms and lash adjusters, then the camshaft bearing caps and camshaft. In the following stage, remove the cylinder head(s). Use Valve Spring Compressor C-3422-D or C-3422-C along with Adapter 8519 to apply pressure to the valve spring, sometimes it helps to lightly tap the top of the valve spring to break the spring retainer locks. Loosen the valve spring compressor only when you have freed the spring retainers, since the valve springs are still extremely tight. With the valve spring compressor out, remove the spring retainer and the spring, then check and smooth away any sharp points on the valve keeper. Only after that, extract the valve from the cylinder head. Since the valve stem seals are identical for both side of the head, get rid of the seal and identify the valve for installation. As soon as the valves are out, checking the springs and testing their properties is advised: look for wear or damage and see if their height and force are still correct when open and closed with a testing tool. Swap out persistent, low quality springs with ones that comply with the specifications.
