2010 Jeep Liberty Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Piston and Its Connecting Rod on 2010 Jeep Liberty?
A: Always start by taking off the negative cable from the battery before trying to remove the piston and connecting rod. Up next, get rid of the oil pan and gasket/windage tray, the cylinder head covers, the timing chain cover and the cylinder head(s). If needed, apply a dependable ridge reamer to smooth out the top ridge of each cylinder bore so that your pistons stay covered after reaming. You should remove the pistons and connecting rods from above the cylinder block, turning the crankshaft to bring the connecting rods to the center of the cylinder bore. Make sure not to stamp the connecting rods or caps with a number so you do not cause any damage. Carefully use a permanent ink marker or scribe to mark where the connecting rods and bearing caps should go, so the joint surfaces are undamaged. After removing the cap of the connecting rod, push the Connecting Rod Guides 8507 into the removing connecting rod, take out the piston and repeat for all the cylinders. Care should be taken that the crankshaft journals are not nicked to avoid engine damage. When the piston and connecting rod are out, immediately put the bearing cap on the companion connecting rod so that the fractured parts of the rod and cap are safe.
