Start by using a trim stick to set apart the lower trim guard below the shift knob, before installing the new shifter assembly. Take the shift knob off the shaft and then remove the lower-trim part. Set the shifter assembly onto the studs of the floor pan, screw in the nuts and tighten them to 7 Nm (65 in.lbs.).
