How to Maintain and Fix a Shift Cable on Chrysler 300?

Before beginning service or repair on the shift cable, put the transmission in PARK and raise the vehicle. Release the gearshift cable at the manual shift lever of the transmission and pull the cable from the mounting bracket. Lift the vehicle gently and take out the floor console if you need to reach the shift mechanism and its cables. Whenever necessary, disconnect the bolts that hold the gearshift and park lock shield to the floorpan, then remove the shield. After that, remove the gearshift cable from the pin on the shift lever and take the retainer from the opening in the shifter assembly. Remove the grommet under the dash panel and then take out the entire gearshift cable.

Lock the cable into removal and haul it out of the bracket (2). Move the lift onto the lower position and, if needed, take away the floor console to reach the shift mechanism and cables. If it's necessary, remove the bolts that keep the shield over the gearshift and park lock cables to the floorpan and put it aside. After that, detach the gearshift cable from the shift lever pin and take out the retaining wire from its notch. Remove the grommet (2) that holds the shift cable from the inside of the dash and then take out the gearshift cable (1) from the car.
