Chrysler 300M Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on Chrysler 300M?
    A:
The first step is to remove the transaxle from the vehicle, followed by taking off the drive plate. Use a 3/16" wide flat bladed screwdriver to fit it between the dust lip and the Crankshaft seal's case, adjusting the screwdriver so the blade is easing the seal from its place without touching the seal on the surface, but contact with the chamfer is acceptable. If the crankshaft has a burr or scratch near the edge (chamfer), clean it with 400 grit sandpaper to stop the seal from being damaged when setting it up. Then, slide Special Tool 6926-1 Guide onto the crankshaft, making sure it lines up right as a pilot tool with its magnetic base. Place the seal so that its flexing lip is over the pilot tool, with the tool still on the crankshaft all the way. While holding the Special Tool 6926-2 Installer and C-4171 Handle, press the seal into the retainer housing so that it sits even with the outer edge of the housing. Then, install the drive plate and transaxle once again.
