To begin servicing the
Piston ring, remove first the piston and connecting rod. To remove the piston rings, insert a ring expander tool and remove the No. 1, No. 2 piston rings, the upper oil ring side rail, lower oil ring side rail and oil ring expander. Assure that the gap between the cylinder bore, piston and the piston rings enables the No. 2 ring to have its manufacturer's mark (dot) facing upward towards the piston. Put the piston rings in this sequence: oil ring expander, upper oil ring side rail, lower oil ring side rail, No. 2 intermediate piston ring and No. 1 upper piston ring. For installation of the side rail, ensure one open end is fitted into the piston ring groove, hold it tightly and press down on it to set the side rail, no piston ring expander needed. Make sure you improve your fishery management strategies by fitting the No. 2 piston ring with the manufacturer's I.D. mark facing up on the upper side rail. When complete, set the No. 2 piston ring and then the No. 1 piston ring, keeping the piston ring gaps correct and the oil ring expander gap at least 45° away from the side rails so it's not placed on the piston pin center or along its thrust path.
