The Chrysler 300M Steering Knuckle is one of the most important parts of the car and it's one of the reasons Chrysler 300M followed good reliability and high-performance cars. As a pivot point between the suspension and steering systems, the Steering Knuckle controls the up and down as well as the rotational movement of the wheel helping provide comfort while driving. Depending on the type it has, as either front wheel drive or rear wheel drive, it has a hub that connects it to the drive axle while the others have an integral spindle. This differentiation emphasizes the purpose of Steering Knuckle in keeping the car stable and maneuverable, which correlates to the concept of Chrysler 300M as a sports sedans possessing great power. It was noted that constant checks and especially the post-installation of any suspension part on the Steering Knuckle must be carried out frequently. The Chrysler 300M since 1999 models have proved to be strong with an acumen of a 3.5L V6 engine and full of fabulous features and options, making Steering Knuckle a necessity part of the car. The Peripheral System benefits because compatibility with other 300M models evolves the appeal of the Steering Knuckle to support the dynamics of the vehicle. However, the Chrysler 300M Steering Knuckle can be considered among the automotive industry trends because of the perfect and highly resilient engineering that solely determines the quality of the drive. As a car part which focuses on safety and performance, the Chrysler 300M Steering Knuckle is still favored by many car lovers and regular consumers, proving that Chrysler is a brand devoted to creating excellent products that meet consumers' expectations.

Chrysler 300M Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Knuckle on Chrysler 300M?
    A:
Before fixing or repairing your steering knuckle, support the vehicle on jackstands or a frame hoist and take out the front wheel and tire. Separate the front caliper setting from the front steering knuckle, then pull off the front rotor from the hub. Unscrew the wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle before removing the hub and bearings and if it can't turn, hit it with a hammer and punch to break it free. Then, get rid of the hub and bearing from the stub axle retaining nut and afterwards remove the three attaching bolts of the knuckle to hub and bearing assembly. If you find that the seal on the hub and bearing assembly is stuck, you should change it and, if the disc is broken, replace the entire hub and bearing assembly too. Remove the hub and bearing assembly from the steering knuckle by pulling; if it's difficult, use a pry bar and tap the stub shaft with a soft face hammer to assist. Detach the nut and bolt at the end of the steering linkage stud before removing the ball joint, so the seal does not crash into the knuckle and cause damage. Using a pry bar, take off the ball joint stud, then remove the strut assembly bolts before you touch the steering knuckle bolts. Lift the steering knuckle behind the tie rod and take it out from the vehicle. Fit the steering knuckle onto the ball joint stud. Hold it with the attaching bolt and nut and tighten to a torque of 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Line the steering knuckle up inside the strut, bolt it in place and tighten to 203 Nm (150 ft. lbs.), without turning any bolts. Set the hub and bearing assembly onto the stub shaft so it is fully seated, then attach and fasten the three steering knuckle to hub and bearing assembly bolts to 110 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). Slide a fresh retaining nut onto the hub and bearing so you can stub the shaft and tighten them without applying torque yet. Put some High Temperature Multipurpose E. P. Grease on the speed sensor head and insert it into the knuckle, then tighten a screw to 7 Nm (60 inch lbs.). Set the reinstalled brake disk on the hub and bearing assembly and put on the front Brake Caliper, screwing the caliper to steering knuckle bolts as tightly as possible, until they reach 19 Nm (168 inch lbs.). First, seat the wheel and tire assembly and then tighten the wheel stud nuts in order, half way first and lastly tighten them to the recommended 129 Nm (95 ft. lbs.). After lowering the vehicle, apply brakes so the tires don't move and use a torque wrench to tighten the retaining nut for the new stub axle to 163 Nm ± 14 Nm (120 ft. lbs. ± 10 ft. lbs.).
  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Steering Knuckle on Chrysler 300M?
    A:
To pull the steering knuckle out, ensure the car is elevated, remove the front wheel and tire assembly and then simply work the knuckle loose from its connectors. Take apart the caliper from the knuckle at the front of the vehicle and remove the rotor from the hub. Remove the wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle because the outer C/V joint can become damaged when you pull out the hub and bearings; if the sensor is unable to move, use a hammer and punch instead of pliers. Remove the hub and bearing from the stub axle retaining nut and undo the three steering knuckle to hub and bearing assembly bolts. If you try to take out a seized metal seal during removal, you should replace the whole hub and bearing assembly. Pull the hub and bearing straight from the steering knuckle, but if it doesn't budge, carefully pry it open with a pry bar and tap the stub shaft with a soft face hammer. Unscrew the nut and bolt linking the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle to not damage the seal by having it brush against the knuckle. Slide the pry bar gently in between the lower Control Arm and steering knuckle to take out the ball joint stud. As you take off the strut assembly bolts, simply slide off the nuts without rotating the bolts which prevents damage. Just after taking out the inner tie rod ends, fit the new steering knuckle onto the ball joint stud and fix it by screwing on the assembly bolt and nut. Tighten the bolt with the torque wrench, using a reading of 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Install the steering knuckle into the strut assembly first, without rotating any bolts and use a torque wrench to fasten the strut clevis and steering knuckle attaching bolt nuts to 150 ft./lbs. Inspect the mounting surfaces on the assembly to verify they are free of anything and put the hub and bearing assembly onto the stub shaft until it's properly attended. Screw on the three steering knuckle to hub and bearing assembly bolts and tighten them to 80 ft. lbs. (110 Nm). Attach a replacement hub and bearing axle retaining nut onto the stub shaft, but don't tighten them just yet. Apply High Temperature Multipurpose E.P. Grease to the speed sensor head prior to inserting it into the knuckle, then tighten it in place with a screw set to 7 Nm (60 inch lbs.). After that, set the brake rotor back onto the hub and bearing assembly, then attach the front Brake Caliper and tighten the bolts to 22 Nm (192 inch lbs.). Press on the brakes and then tighten the axle nut till it reaches 142 Nm (105 ft. lbs.). After that, install the wheel and tire once more, making sure to tighten the mounting stud nuts as detailed in the steps provided and repeat those steps for the entire 135 Nm (100 lb. ft.) of screwhook torque before you place the car back on the ground.
